Ebook About
Have you ever woken up and expected to see destruction everywhere? In 48 hours, I lost everything. I came home to find my girlfriend of four years with another man. The next day a plane crash ripped my family away from me, shattering me in the process. In many ways, I died that day, too. The fun-loving man who'd lived in the fast lane and loved his career in the film industry was gone. Left was a forty-year-old shell that dwelled at the bottom of a bottle.Only one person knew what I was going through. My sister's stepson, who hadn't been on the plane. Julian knew what it was like to lose everyone he loved, too. He'd stopped showing up at reunions when he was a teenager, so I didn’t know him very well. But I told him at the memorial service he could come out and visit me in LA whenever. One day he did, and I guessed it was as good a day as any to start picking up the pieces and see what was left of us.

Book Noah Review :

The beginning of the book was meh for me, as the whole scene with Noah’s soon-to-be ex-girlfriend was a little over the top and dramatic. But even then, Noah’s vice shone through, and that’s what kept me reading. After that, I was hooked. Noah’s voice is strong, and despite his flaws, he was a narrator and character that quickly grew on me.The romance between Noah and Julian is a slow one, but oh, it’s good. I loved seeing them connect, struggle, then connect again. The way they took care of each other in the midst of so much tragedy was sweet. The age difference is not made into a big thing, which I loved. The almost-related issue was much bigger, as it should be, but that was handled well. Noah’s struggle with it wasn’t overly dramatic, but felt realistic considering the close-knit family he was from.It was a smart choice from the author to write from Noah’s perspective only. That way, we’re kept in the dark on how Julian feels about Noah, which adds tension. Plus, we know Julian has something to hide, and we would have found out too soon what it was had the story been told from his perspective as well. The writing is excellent, by the way, and the book is well edited.Noah’s job as movie director added another layer to the book, making it even more interesting. There were enough details added to make it feel authentic, without bombarding us as readers with too many facts and useless details. So I’ll forget about the beginning, and give this book a solid five stars because I really loved it.
When I saw this come out, I was really hoping for something kick-ass good. Aftermath and Public Display are all time favorites but the North Novels were barely likable for me. This fell somewhere between those. The story was quite readable, not boring by any means but I was left feeling parts of were bland. That's partly just me, I suppose, as I have little interest in Hollywood or movies.I had mixed feelings about the scenes with his ex. She was definitely in the wrong but his attitude was rather cruel and vengeful, and that aspect came out again later in the story against another character. It was a slimy character and he did have a negative impact but I don't care much for the retaliation, which ended up seemed rather petty. The death of Noah and Julian's family was very sad but wasn't made overly dramatic. The process of mourning wasn't long and detailed either. Noah and Julian had never been close or spent much time around each other, even after the funeral, so there also wasn't any sense of taboo. I thought that was written and conveyed well. Julian showed up at Noah's a month after the funeral and their interactions were supportive for each other, until they began platonically sleeping in the same bed because of nightmares. After weeks of this, they finally have one night of sex. Then somehow they manage to stay roommates for nine months. That was skipped completely in a time jump. I would have liked to see some sexual tension and more of the interim interaction. It was reduced to telling, not showing. The balance of the story is largely about working on filmmaking, their various actor, director, movie industry friends and both MC's getting some therapy. Then Noah and Julian concede their feelings for each other and it is leavened by some seriously hot sex scenes, including role play! This doesn't happen until the latter half of the book. There is some private angst, public scrutiny, and friends involvement...and lots more movie making stuff. Even though there was a period where they started communicating more, and scenes of them spending time together, I had a hard time seeing real depth to them as a couple. One more point that annoyed me a bit was the dreaded "I don't label myself, but I guess I'm straight, since I only have sex with men but date women". Not once does Noah cop to being bisexual, even after getting with Julian. Julian was gay and didn't come out of the closet for a while. Along with that, Noah perpetually called Julian "kid", and that was what felt creepy. Yes there's a big age difference but, eewww.So points for interesting characters as individuals, even if I never warmed up to Noah. I did like that the parts about film making weren't overly technical, but I could have done without some of it. If the author had a purpose for including so much of the movies story and the details of the scenes being filmed, I didn't get it. It was mildly interesting seeing the actress changing from their friend into the film character. I am giving credit for the quality of the writing, character building and world building. I did also notice quite a few editing errors.
